Biographical Info
Manjunath Markandaya, MD, is a board-certified intensivist and neurointensivist practicing in Georgia and Maryland. With over a decade of experience in inpatient critical care, Dr. Markandaya noted a rising burden of metabolic disease, particularly an increase in strokes among younger patients. This observation sparked his pursuit of root-cause solutions, leading him to adopt a ketogenic/carnivore lifestyle that reversed his own health challenges. Inspired, he earned his Medical Certification as a Nutrition Network Practitioner in 2024 and now focuses on metabolic health to prevent patients from requiring intensive care.
Dr. Markandaya completed his Neurology residency at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, followed by fellowships in Neurocritical Care at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Trauma/Surgical Critical Care at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, University of Maryland Medical Center. He served as an attending physician in neurocritical care at the Cleveland Clinic and in both neurocritical and trauma/surgical critical care at the Shock Trauma Center. A leader in program development, he established a state-of-the-art Neuromedicine Critical Care Unit at the University of Rochester and built neurointensive care units at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, NY, and Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
An avid educator, Dr. Markandaya received the “Teacher of the Year” award from the Surgical Critical Care Fellows (2012–2013) at the Shock Trauma Center and the Emergency Medicine residents at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. He also led the world’s largest live Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) course. As a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Neurocritical Care Society, he was honored with the Presidential Citation at the latter’s 2018 annual meeting in Boca Raton, FL.
Dr. Markandaya now channels his passion and expertise into metabolic health, empowering patients to achieve lasting wellness through lifestyle interventions.
